Description: Cape Forchu Milky Way
I had some new requests from the Yarmouth area for this year. I wanted to spend extra time at Cape Forchu Lighthouse to fulfill those requests and I love visiting Cape Forchu. It’s so peaceful and charming. I captured the sunset, went back into town and had supper. After supper, I returned to my hotel room and prepared for the next day. While finishing up, I decided to head back out to Cape
Forchu and see about capturing some astrophotography. Coincidentally, the Milky Way would be visible above the lighthouse. I did the (what feels like forever) drive back to Cape Forchu. I parked my SUV and started walking up to the lighthouse.
I got up close and sat on the small hill while staring at aw of the Milky Way. I turned on a light at one point to change from my 24mm 1.4 to my 12-24mm 2.8. I, after all, was much closer. While doing so, I heard something behind me. I turned around nothing. I was sitting on a slope so I looked down the slope, nothing there. I continued on thinking it must have been some animal down the deep slope.
A short time later I heard more sounds, a bit further behind me. Looking over behind me towards the pond, I saw some movement in the dark. Not sure what it was I continued sitting in aww and watching. Watching and sitting in aww.
Eventually, I captured enough different compositions and decided to change locations. I was going to move back to the other side of the small pond, just like I had done during sunset. I packed up. While doing so, I notice a flash light. It was on the other side of the pond.
I felt, awkward. There were two photographers in the position I was about to go to and I was literally in their shot without realizing it. No biggie for the most part but I definitely wouldn’t have used my flash light as much had I known.
I went back to the pond and sure enough, they had the same shot in mind as I. Pond. Reflections. Milky Way. It’s an amazing shot when you think about it.
They had travelled from Ontario. It was July (or August) and they started planning this shot in April. They were astrophotographers who loved shooting the Milky Way.
I planned it minutes before but what I didn’t plan for, was having a photographer in my shot. This was a bonus.
Thank you for considering my work.
